FCC formally inaugurated

Published on: January 13, 2026 3:43 AM

The recently established Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) was formally inaugurated on Monday in a simple yet dignified ceremony, marking a historic milestone in the country’s constitutional evolution.

Chief Justice, Justice Amin ud Din Khan, the first head of the FCC, formally unveiled the plaque of the newly created top constitutional court. All sitting judges of the FCC – Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi, Justice Aamer Farooq, Justice Ali Baqar Najafi, Justice Muhammad Karim Agha Khan, Justice Rozi Khan Barrech and Justice Arshad Husain Shah – were accompanying the Chief Justice FCC in the inauguration.

Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, Registrar FCC Muhammad Hafeezullah Khan, representatives of the legal fraternity, media personnel, and officials from the departments concerned were also present. The FCC has been established in a prominent building on Constitutional Avenue, located directly opposite the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The premises were previously occupied by the Federal Shariat Court (FSC), which has now shifted to another location on the same avenue.

The Federal Constitutional Court was created on November 13, 2025, through the Twenty-Seventh Constitutional Amendment. Justice Amin ud Din Khan took oath as the court’s first Chief Justice the following day, November 14, 2025.

The court has since been operational and has begun hearing cases from its new permanent location, marking the beginning of a new chapter in Pakistan’s constitutional jurisprudence.
