Police said the accident occurred around 10 a.m. when the brakes of the Shehzore pickup failed while it was ascending a steep road approximately four kilometres before the Dhan Galli bridge, within the Dadyal police station area.

The vehicle, carrying 10 people including the driver, was transporting the ox to a racing competition in the Ban Sain area of Dadyal, a town known for horse races, tent pegging, bullock races, and animal fairs along Mangla Lake.

Three occupants — driver Tahir Nadeem of Sudhnoti district, Rashid of Rawalpindi district, and Asim of Rawalpindi district — died on the spot. Seven others were injured, and two of the critically wounded were shifted to Rawalpindi for treatment. One of them, Muhammad Junaid, succumbed to his injuries en route. The remaining five injured are receiving treatment at the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Dadyal and are reported to be out of danger.

The young ox sustained fractures to both legs and was subsequently slaughtered after being recovered from the vehicle. Police are investigating the incident and have attributed the crash to brake failure.
