Iran warns regional U.S. allies of retaliation threat

Published on: January 14, 2026 9:46 PM

Iran has issued stern warnings to United States allies in the Middle East, saying it could strike American military bases on their soil if Washington launches a direct attack on Iranian territory amid rising tensions. Tehran’s message, delivered to nations hosting U.S. forces, underscores growing fears of a wider confrontation that could reshape regional security.

The warning comes as protests in Iran escalate into one of the largest challenges to the clerical leadership since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, with the death toll approaching 2,600 amid nationwide unrest. Iranian officials say they fear U.S. intervention following repeated threats from Washington to act if violent crackdowns continue.

According to sources close to the discussions, Tehran has urged regional partners, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Turkey, to discourage any U.S. military action, stressing that attacks on Iranian soil would provoke retaliation. The threat signals Tehran’s willingness to expand conflict beyond its borders in defense of national sovereignty.

U.S. President Donald Trump has warned of strong measures if the Iranian government continues to use force against protesters, raising the prospect of U.S. military involvement. However, the precise nature and timing of any action remain unclear, and diplomatic channels are strained amid the crisis.

Diplomatic communications between U.S. and Iranian officials have reportedly been suspended, reflecting deepening mistrust. Meanwhile, some Gulf states have privately expressed concerns over potential military strikes, urging Washington to pursue de-escalation and avoid destabilising the broader region.

The situation highlights the delicate balance between internal unrest in Iran and external geopolitical pressures, as world powers watch closely to see whether tensions will escalate into direct military confrontation or yield to diplomatic efforts.
