Three children killed in separate fire incidents in KP

Published on: January 16, 2026 12:53 PM

CHARSADDA/MANSEHRA: Tragedy struck in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday as three children lost their lives in two separate fire incidents in Charsadda and Lower Kohistan.

In Charsadda, a massive blast occurred on Wednesday night at the residence of Ibrahim Khan due to a suspected gas leak, destroying one room of the house, according to Rescue 1122 officials. The explosion left Ibrahim injured and claimed the lives of his five-year-old son Rahimullah and six-year-old daughter Spogmai. The injured father was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Charsadda for treatment.

Meanwhile, in the mountainous Khanokheil area of Lower Kohistan, a massive fire engulfed a large house containing around a dozen rooms. Officials said the blaze was triggered by an electric short circuit and spread rapidly, engulfing the entire structure.

Rescue teams and residents rushed to the scene to save women and children, while some people sustained burn injuries during the rescue. However, a one-year-old girl who was asleep in one of the rooms could not be rescued and died in the fire. Her charred body was later recovered from the house, which was completely destroyed.

Officials emphasized the urgency of fire safety measures in residential areas, particularly in remote and mountainous regions where access to emergency services is limited. The incidents have once again highlighted the vulnerability of households to gas leaks and electrical short circuits.

Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant, ensure proper maintenance of gas and electrical appliances, and report any potential hazards to prevent such tragedies in the future.
