PCB halts Pakistan T20 World Cup preparations

Published on: January 19, 2026 5:00 PM

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has halted all preparations for the Pakistan team’s T20 World Cup participation. The decision comes amid ongoing security concerns. Team management will be briefed later on the future course of action.

Sources say the PCB has also requested a parallel plan from the team management in case Pakistan cannot participate. This ensures readiness for any scenario. The decision affects training, practice camps, and logistical arrangements for players.

The move follows Bangladesh’s decision not to travel to India for the T20 World Cup. Pakistan fully supported Bangladesh’s security concerns and considered them reasonable and justified. PCB officials emphasized that safety of players is the top priority.

If the security issues in Bangladesh remain unresolved, Pakistan will review its own participation in the tournament. The PCB is monitoring developments closely and coordinating with relevant authorities for timely decisions. Officials are also assessing alternative options for the team’s international calendar.

Mohsin Naqvi confirmed that the PCB is committed to ensuring players’ safety while maintaining Pakistan’s cricketing interests. Further announcements on training schedules and participation will be shared once the security situation is clarified.
