Islamabad shaken by 5.8 magnitude earthquake

Islamabad and its surrounding areas experienced strong earthquake tremors on Monday afternoon, creating panic among residents. People rushed out of homes and offices fearing aftershocks. The tremors were felt across multiple districts including the capital and northern areas.

According to the Seismic Center, the earthquake registered 5.8 on the Richter scale. Its epicenter was in northwestern Kashmir, with a depth of 10 kilometers. Authorities are monitoring the situation to assess potential impacts on nearby regions.

The tremors were also felt in Gilgit-Baltistan, including the Hunza valley. Local residents reported shaking furniture and swaying buildings, but there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties. Emergency teams have been alerted to remain on standby.

Officials advised citizens to remain calm, stay outdoors if possible, and avoid using elevators until further notice. They also reminded people to follow safety measures during potential aftershocks. Local media are providing continuous updates on the situation.
