End of an era: Shoaib Malik retires from PSL

Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik announced his retirement from the Pakistan Super League (PSL) after a decade-long career. He expressed gratitude for every moment on and off the field. Malik said it is time to conclude this chapter of his cricketing journey.

In a social media statement, Malik reflected on his 10-year PSL career, saying he thoroughly enjoyed the highs and lows. He praised teammates, fans, and organizers for supporting him throughout the league. He added that his love for cricket will remain and he will continue contributing to the sport.

Malik emphasized that while he is retiring from PSL, his commitment to Pakistan cricket and its development will continue. He highlighted that mentoring younger players and aiding cricket initiatives will remain a priority. His experience in domestic and international leagues will benefit future generations.

The 44-year-old all-rounder had previously retired from Test cricket in 2015 and One-Day Internationals in 2019. Although he never formally retired from T20 internationals, he had not represented the national team since 2021, focusing instead on PSL and other T20 leagues.

Shoaib Malik’s retirement marks the end of a celebrated PSL era. Fans, players, and cricket boards have lauded his contributions, praising his longevity, skill, and leadership. His legacy in Pakistan cricket, especially in the T20 format, will be remembered for years to come.
