Over AED 2M in cash, thousands of devices left in Dubai taxis returned in 2025 - The Filipino Times

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) reported that over AED 2 million in cash, approximately 35,000 electronic devices, and 3,000 passports were recovered from taxis and other vehicles in 2025, highlighting the emirate’s efficient lost-and-found operations.

The RTA handled more than 104,000 lost-property reports across the city last year through its dedicated Call Centre, which works closely with taxi companies and drivers to trace and return forgotten items to passengers. Officials said that most belongings were located and returned within two hours of a report being filed, thanks to a combination of trip verification, vehicle tracking, and direct coordination with drivers.

Among the most commonly recovered items were smartphones, laptops, tablets, passports, jewellery, and other valuable personal belongings. Cash alone amounted to more than AED 2 million (around Rs152.4 million).

The RTA Call Centre provides services in multiple languages, including Arabic, English, Urdu, Hindi, Filipino, French, Chinese, and Russian, catering to Dubai’s diverse population and workforce. Officials specifically praised the role of Pakistani taxi drivers, who make up a significant portion of the city’s transport sector. Many were noted for their honesty and cooperation, promptly handing in lost items and helping ensure their safe return to passengers.

“Passenger feedback consistently highlights the integrity and helpfulness of taxi drivers, including many from Pakistan, in maintaining trust and safety within Dubai’s transport system,” an RTA spokesperson said.

The RTA’s lost-and-found system underscores the emirate’s commitment to efficient, customer-friendly public services, while also recognising the contributions of drivers and staff who play a crucial role in safeguarding passengers’ belongings.
