Pakistan’s World Cup fate rests with government

Published on: January 24, 2026 5:00 PM

LAHORE – Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said the government will decide if Pakistan participates in the T20 World Cup. He emphasized that the PCB follows government directives, not the ICC. Naqvi added that plans are ready once the government announces a decision.

Speaking to the media, Naqvi said the final decision awaits the Prime Minister, who is currently out of the country. He explained that once the government decides, the PCB will implement Plan A, B, or C. He stressed that the board is fully prepared for any outcome.

Naqvi criticized Bangladesh, saying the country faces unfair treatment. He called it double standards and said no nation should dictate to another. He emphasized that Bangladesh deserves its place in the T20 World Cup.

He refused to give more details for now, saying information will be shared when necessary. Naqvi’s comments highlight ongoing tensions about participation and fairness in international cricket events.
