Film based on final moments of Hind Rajab nominated for Oscar

Published on: January 26, 2026 1:03 AM

The Voice of Hind Rajab, a film inspired by the final moments of Palestinian girl Hind Rajab, has been nominated for an Academy Award in the Best International Feature Film category.

The film is based on the tragic story of Hind Rajab, a young Palestinian girl who was trapped during Israeli gunfire in Gaza. The film is directed by Tunisian filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania and was produced with support from Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Fund.

The story follows Hind Rajab Hamada, who was attempting to flee Gaza City last year along with six relatives when their vehicle came under Israeli fire. All passengers except Hind were killed in the attack. She later survived briefly but was subsequently shot dead.

Hind Rajab’s recorded final phone calls to the Palestinian Red Crescent rescue services, in which she pleaded for help, sparked global outrage and drew international attention to Israel’s military actions in Gaza.

The film features a high-profile group of executive producers, including Hollywood actors Joaquin Phoenix and Brad Pitt, as well as Oscar-winning filmmakers Jonathan Glazer and Alfonso Cuarón. Following the Oscar nomination announcement, the Red Sea Film Foundation shared a statement on Instagram expressing pride in the achievement. The foundation said the nomination reflects the strength of the film’s creative vision and the dedication of the team that brought the project to life.

The film premiered at the Venice International Film Festival in September 2025, where it was awarded the Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize, the festival’s second-highest honour.
