Italian envoy spots big investment potential in Multan

Published on: January 27, 2026 4:33 PM

Italian Ambassador Marilina Armellin has described Multan as a rising hub for trade and investment, saying South Punjab offers strong opportunities for foreign businesses seeking growth. During her visit to the Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, she stressed that closer economic ties between Pakistan and Italy can unlock new development pathways.

Moreover, she highlighted that Italy holds advanced expertise in textile machinery, packaging, modern agriculture, and irrigation systems, which can greatly support South Punjab’s farming and industrial sectors. These technologies, she explained, can help improve productivity, reduce costs, and modernize local industries that form the backbone of the regional economy.

The ambassador also announced that Italy has set up a visa facilitation center in Multan, aimed at encouraging trade, investment, and people-to-people connections. This step is expected to make it easier for business leaders, students, and professionals to travel, strengthening links between the two countries.

Meanwhile, local business leaders presented Multan’s diverse economic strengths, including cotton, wheat, oilseeds, and a growing textile industry that serves both domestic and export markets. They also highlighted opportunities in fertilizers, pesticides, food processing, poultry feed, and traditional products such as blue pottery and camel skin goods.

During the visit, the Italian envoy toured a special display of hand embroidery and handicrafts, reflecting Multan’s rich cultural and commercial heritage. She was also honored by the chamber, while traditional blue pottery and antique jewelry were presented as souvenirs, symbolizing goodwill and mutual respect.

Overall, both sides agreed that deeper cooperation in trade, technology, and culture can bring long-term benefits for Pakistan and Italy alike. With Multan’s natural resources and Italy’s technical expertise, this partnership could create jobs, boost exports, and strengthen regional development in the years ahead.
