China, Russia deepen strategic defence partnership

China’s Defence Minister Dong Jun said Beijing is ready to strengthen strategic ties with Russia. He emphasized improving cooperation and responding to risks together. The remarks came during a video call with Russian Defence Minister Andrei Belousov.

Dong highlighted that both countries aim to implement the consensus reached by their heads of state. He called for enriching cooperation, improving coordination, and enhancing exchange mechanisms. The minister stressed the importance of close communication amid global security challenges.

The video call follows joint initiatives by Beijing and Moscow, including military exercises under the “BRICS Plus” framework in South Asia waters. Analysts said such measures signal deepening military collaboration and strategic alignment between the two nations.

China’s state media reported that Dong expressed willingness to further develop defence dialogues. Both sides reportedly discussed ways to strengthen operational readiness and respond to evolving geopolitical risks. Observers noted that Russia views China as a key strategic partner amid global tensions.
