Muslims worldwide observe the 15th night of Shaban, known as Shab-e-Barat, with religious devotion. Devotees offer nawafil (voluntary prayers) in mosques, engage in special supplications, and seek blessings.

In Pakistan, it is customary for people to visit graveyards to pray for deceased loved ones, light lamps, and reflect on the past year. Religious gatherings and sermons are also held in mosques and community centres, where imams emphasise forgiveness, charity, and spiritual purification.

The Sindh government’s decision comes as part of routine measures to allow citizens, especially students, to participate in the religious observances without affecting academic schedules.

Authorities have requested schools and parents to ensure students celebrate the occasion in a safe and orderly manner, observing health and safety guidelines.

Shab-e-Barat is considered a night of reflection, and many Muslims believe that one’s fate for the coming year is written on this night, making prayers and acts of charity particularly significant.

With the announcement, students and families across Sindh will have the day off to participate in religious and spiritual activities, marking the annual occasion with devotion and community engagement.
