Attack in Pakistan’s Peshawar: What we know about victims, attackers

PESHAWAR – Unidentified assailants attacked the residence of local PML-N leader Nawabzada Waheeduddin Khan in Bajaur district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, late Tuesday night, police and party sources reported.

The attack occurred around 1:30 a.m. at Waheed’s home in the Haji Lawang area, located on the outskirts of Khar tehsil. Preliminary investigations suggest that hand grenades were allegedly thrown by unknown attackers, causing damage to the main gate of the property.

A senior police official said a team from a nearby police post was immediately dispatched to the scene to search for the perpetrators. He added that investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the attack and identify those responsible. No group had claimed responsibility for the incident at the time of reporting.

In response, PML-N provincial senior vice-president condemned the attack on his brother’s residence. “Thanks to Allah that no loss of life was reported in the attack,” he wrote on social media, urging the federal government, police, and other law enforcement agencies to conduct an immediate inquiry and bring the perpetrators to justice. He stressed that such acts would not weaken the party’s resolve.

Waheed, a member of the notable Nawab of Khar family, was not at home during the attack and is currently in Peshawar. He confirmed via social media that his family members were safe, while expressing concern over the incident.

The attack adds to the growing concerns about security in the Bajaur district, where political figures and their families have occasionally been targeted in violent incidents. Authorities have promised heightened vigilance as the investigation continues, emphasizing the importance of maintaining law and order in the region.
