KP government approves Ramazan support package for over one million families

KP cabinet approves cash support for over one million families during Ramzan | Pakistan Today

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has approved a Ramazan Support Package, under which more than one million deserving families will receive Rs12,500 each via digital payment, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Information and Public Relations Shafi Jan said Wednesday.

The package prioritises the poorest segments of society, including widows, orphans, transgender persons, individuals with disabilities, and victims of natural disasters and terrorism. Government and semi-government employees are not eligible.

In addition to the Ramazan package, the KP cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, approved a range of initiatives, including the installation of Reinforced Plastic Composite manhole covers and the construction of a fruit and vegetable market in Bara area of Khyber tribal district.

The cabinet also sanctioned an additional Rs496 million as a Martyrs’ Package for the families of 190 martyred law-enforcement personnel, as well as financial assistance for patients with complex and costly diseases.

Other approvals included the reconstitution of the Quran Board, appointments to the National Commission for Minorities, and the enactment of the KP Kalash Marriage Bill and Hindu Marriage (Amendment) Bill. The KP Women Empowerment Policy 2026–2030 was also approved, focusing on economic participation, political leadership, legal protection, and access to digital initiatives for women.

To enhance food security, the cabinet approved procurement of 175,000 metric tons of wheat at over Rs19 billion and deregulation of sugar. Energy projects, including Gabral Kalam and Madain hydropower initiatives, received additional financial support.

Education and IT programs were expanded with the activation of 325 non-functional computer labs, internet access for 958 schools, and an increase in funding for the Tele-Taleem pilot project in 175 schools. Infrastructure, police projects, hospital upgrades, and small dairy farmer programs in Hazara Division were also approved.

Sports received attention, with Rs1.5 million allocated to athlete Jadran Khan for an international championship and Rs20 million for future sports initiatives. The cabinet also amended forest SOPs for development projects and requested an extension from the Election Commission for local government delimitation schedules.
