Punjab launches province-wide infrastructure standard plan

Published on: February 25, 2026 2:25 PM

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved a province-wide infrastructure and design standardisation plan to ensure uniform development and stronger urban discipline. The decision followed a high-level meeting where officials presented detailed proposals on roads, public spaces, and building layouts. Moreover, the government aims to create a consistent identity for cities and towns across the province through structured planning.

Under the new initiative, the administration will introduce a “One Punjab, One Standard” policy to guide development projects. As a result, roads, green belts, signboards, and footpaths will follow a single approved design framework. The chief minister directed authorities to prepare a comprehensive standardised design manual that will set clear rules for construction quality and visual harmony.

In addition, the plan covers the standardisation of schools, hospitals, bus stops, and other public buildings to improve functionality and appearance. Officials also discussed forming an autonomous authority to supervise design reforms and ensure compliance with the new guidelines. Consequently, this body would monitor infrastructure projects and promote consistent urban planning across departments.

Furthermore, the proposal includes uniform designs for roadside kiosks and small shop cabins along highways to maintain order and aesthetic balance. The government believes that consistent road furniture and public structures will reduce visual clutter and enhance safety. Therefore, planners will align commercial installations with broader development standards to strengthen coordination between public and private spaces.

During the meeting, the chief minister emphasized that disciplined development reflects true progress and long-term vision. She stated that every street from urban centers to remote districts should appear organized and visually appealing under the new system. Meanwhile, officials confirmed that implementation plans will begin after final approval of the design manual and regulatory framework.

Ultimately, the standardisation strategy aims to reshape Punjab’s infrastructure landscape and create a unified provincial identity. By ensuring consistent design across sectors, the government expects improved efficiency, better aesthetics, and stronger governance. As the project moves forward, authorities will focus on practical execution, monitoring mechanisms, and timely rollout throughout the province.
