DG ISPR outlines Pakistan’s response to Afghan border Firing

Published on: February 27, 2026 4:59 PM

Director General (DG) of Inter‑Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry addressed a high‑profile press conference in Rawalpindi on Friday to outline Pakistan’s measured response to recent unprovoked firing from Afghan along the shared border. He provided comprehensive details of military actions taken to protect national security and defend territorial integrity. The briefing offered clear insights into the evolving situation, demonstrating Pakistan’s commitment to protecting its citizens and borders against external threats.

Gen Ahmed Sharif told reporters that Pakistan’s armed forces responded professionally and effectively to hostile fire directed at its border security posts, underscoring that such aggression cannot be tolerated. He explained that defensive operations were carried out in strict compliance with international norms and aimed at neutralizing threats posed by armed groups operating across the frontier. The DG ISPR stressed that Pakistan remained committed to peace but would not compromise on national security.

During the briefing, the military spokesman noted that the response included coordinated air and ground actions targeting hostile positions responsible for the initial firing. He emphasized that the operations were precise, minimising civilian risk while aiming to dismantle militant infrastructure near border regions. Gen Chaudhry highlighted that Pakistan’s armed forces acted swiftly to prevent further escalation and shielded population centres from potential harm.

The DG ISPR also addressed concerns about border stability, assuring that troops stationed along the frontier remain vigilant and prepared to respond to any future aggression. He reiterated that Pakistan has consistently pursued diplomatic engagements alongside military readiness to avoid conflict, but would defend its sovereignty if provoked. The general encouraged responsible conduct by neighbouring forces to reduce tensions and avoid misunderstandings.

Gen Chaudhry further mentioned that intelligence and operational coordination played a vital role in the rapid response, allowing security forces to act decisively. He noted that continuous monitoring along the border enabled early detection of hostile movements and ensured timely interception of threats. The military leadership reaffirmed its focus on safeguarding peace while preserving the ability to counter security challenges effectively.

In closing, the ISPR chief reiterated Pakistan’s position that peace and stable relations with neighbours are essential, yet self‑defence remains paramount. He called on Afghan authorities and their forces to respect international borders and cease hostile actions, underlining that lasting peace requires mutual respect and adherence to agreed norms. Pakistan’s firm stance aims to protect its people while encouraging dialogue to ease regional tensions.
