Iran hits US bases in Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, UAE

Published on: February 28, 2026 8:35 PM

Iran launched missiles and drones at US bases in Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates on Saturday. The attacks followed joint US and Israeli strikes on Iranian cities, sharply escalating regional tensions. Gulf civilians, US forces and global energy markets now face rising security risks.

Bahrain confirmed a missile strike near the US Fifth Fleet service center. Witnesses reported smoke rising over Manama as sirens sounded. In Abu Dhabi, several explosions shook residential areas. The UAE said air defenses intercepted ballistic missiles. However, falling debris killed one civilian and caused property damage. Qatar said it intercepted missiles near Al Udeid Air Base. Kuwait also reported blasts, though officials released limited details. Saudi Arabia condemned the attacks and pledged solidarity with Gulf states.

Earlier, US and Israeli forces struck Iranian cities including Isfahan, Qom, Karaj, Kermanshah and Tabriz. Israeli officials described the operation as pre-emptive and coordinated with Washington. Iranian media reported explosions in Tehran and near key oil facilities. Blasts were also heard near Kharg Island, a major export terminal. Authorities reported internet disruptions and communication blackouts in parts of Iran. Meanwhile, Israel activated nationwide sirens and closed its airspace.

US President Donald Trump said American forces targeted military sites to eliminate immediate threats. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the campaign necessary for national security. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned the strikes as illegal and unjustified. Tehran warned that all US bases in the region remain within reach. Pakistan urged immediate de-escalation and advised citizens against travel to Iran. Britain and Russia also reacted, highlighting fears of wider conflict.

The confrontation follows a brief air war between Israel and Iran in June. Recent US-Iran talks aimed to revive diplomacy over Tehran’s nuclear program. However, both sides hardened positions in recent weeks. Airlines diverted flights as Iraq closed its airspace. Energy markets remain on alert due to risks near the Strait of Hormuz. Analysts warn that further retaliation could destabilize the entire Middle East.
