Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has paid glowing tribute to the courage, resilience and invaluable contributions of women across Pakistan.
In a statement on the eve of International Women’s Day, he said that the progress of any society is measured by the dignity, freedom and opportunities it provides to its women.
He said that the struggle for women’s rights is inseparable from the broader struggle for democracy, equality and social justice.
Bilawal Bhutto said the historic legacy of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto-the first woman Prime Minister of the Muslim world-continues to inspire generations to dream fearlessly, break barriers and lead with courage.
He said the PPP has never limited its commitment to words alone; it has translated its vision of gender equality into concrete action.
From giving the Muslim world its first woman Prime Minister to enabling women to serve as Speaker, Deputy Speaker and Foreign Minister, the PPP has ensured that women stand at the forefront of leadership and decision-making, he added.
He said that the PPP has led landmark legislation to protect women’s rights, making crimes against women and workplace harassment non-compoundable offenses.
Chairman PPP highlighted that landmark initiatives such as the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), widely acknowledged by institutions including the World Bank, have empowered millions of women and strengthened families across the country.
He also recalled that Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto pioneered transformative steps including the establishment of the First Women Bank Limited, women police stations and the Lady Health Workers Programme-initiatives that opened new doors of opportunity, dignity and protection for women.
Bilawal Bhutto pointed out that PPP governments have continued this mission by allocating land to landless women farmers, granting home-ownership rights to women from families affected by the 2022 floods, and launching community-based poverty alleviation programmes at the Union Council level in Sindh, benefiting nearly a million women and their families.
He reaffirmed the PPP’s unwavering resolve to build a Pakistan where every woman can live with dignity, security and equal opportunity.
