King Charles, royals question Harry and Meghan’s Australia trip announcement

Published on: March 15, 2026 5:11 PM

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have drawn attention from King Charles and the royal family following their announcement of an upcoming trip to Australia in mid-April. The couple plans to undertake private, business, and philanthropic engagements during their visit.

Royal commentator Jennie Bond suggested that the timing of the announcement may have left the Palace questioning the Sussexes’ intentions, as it coincides with significant royal events, including commemorations of the late Queen’s 100th birthday.

Bond noted that the couple’s publicized plans may risk overshadowing formal royal occasions, adding that the announcement’s “flourish” has raised eyebrows within the family, prompting internal discussions about its impact on ceremonial activities.

In addition to philanthropic efforts, the royal expert highlighted that Harry and Meghan’s trip has a commercial dimension, aimed at generating income while promoting causes they support, which could further complicate the Palace’s perception of their visit.

Jennie Bond also cautioned Meghan about the use of her title, warning that employing “Duchess of Sussex” for promotional purposes could create confusion and raise questions about the couple’s adherence to royal protocol.

While the Sussexes maintain their intent to balance charitable work with personal projects, the Palace is reportedly monitoring the announcement closely, reflecting ongoing tensions between the couple and the senior royals over public appearances and titles.
