According to preliminary reports, the container train, consisting of 29 wagons, was parked on the loop line at Larkana Road Station, having arrived at 1:05 pm. The Shalimar Express crossed the station at 1:32 pm. Railway control in Sukkur reportedly alerted the express train’s driver about red signals, but the brakes were not applied in time, resulting in a collision.
The impact derailed the engine and attached luggage van of the Shalimar Express, while the last wagon of the container train also went off the tracks. Three additional wagons of the container train reportedly derailed. Train movement on the up line was suspended, although operations on the down line continued. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident.
This incident follows an earlier collision involving the Shalimar Express in Sindh’s Naushahro Feroz district at Lakha Road station. In that accident, the express train crashed into a stationary goods train on a loop line, damaging two bogies and the engine. Local residents assisted in retrieving the injured before authorities arrived.
Railway officials confirmed that in both incidents, the drivers survived, but the train guard sustained serious injuries. Despite the derailments, officials said operations on unaffected tracks continued with minimal disruption.
