Operation Ghazab lil Haq paused for Eid: Tarar

Published on: March 18, 2026 8:15 PM

Pakistan has announced a temporary pause in Operation Ghazab lil Haq ahead of Eid ul-Fitr. The move signals a goodwill gesture to ease tensions during the festive period. The decision affects security forces, border regions, and militant groups near Afghan territory.

The announcement came from Attaullah Tarar, who confirmed the suspension on Wednesday. He said the government took this step voluntarily and after requests from friendly nations. Moreover, he emphasized that the pause reflects Pakistan’s intent to promote peace during Eid celebrations.

However, authorities clarified that the halt is conditional and temporary. Tarar warned that operations would resume immediately if any security threat emerges. This statement underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining national security despite the pause.

Operation Ghazab lil Haq targets militant groups operating from Afghan soil. These groups have been linked to cross-border attacks and instability in nearby regions. Therefore, the operation remains a key part of Pakistan’s broader counterterrorism strategy.

Meanwhile, officials believe the Eid pause could reduce tensions along the border. It may also create space for diplomatic engagement and humanitarian considerations. Nevertheless, security agencies remain on high alert during this period.
