Trump warns Iran near destruction, US defends Strait of Hormuz

Published on: March 19, 2026 10:40 PM

US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that Iran is “close to destruction” and claimed that the United States is defending the Strait of Hormuz for everyone. He spoke to the media, describing recent developments in Iran and regional security. Trump’s remarks come amid rising tensions in the Gulf and ongoing concerns over Iran’s leadership.

Trump stated that Iran’s leadership has been dismantled and Iranian officials are reportedly seeking new leadership. He acknowledged that retaliatory actions from Iran were expected but suggested the situation would be resolved quickly. He insisted that no additional US troop deployments are planned at this stage.

The US president highlighted Japan’s support regarding Iran and said discussions on military equipment with Tokyo will continue. He emphasized that Japan is playing its role in regional security, and coordination with allies remains a priority.

Trump also said he instructed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to attack Iran’s gas installations. He claimed Iran is seeking more funding for war and that deviations and defections among Iranian military personnel are being observed.

The president added that the US does not need help from others but is taking precautionary measures. He noted that while the US could strike Kharg Island if necessary, efforts are focused on securing the Strait of Hormuz and maintaining regional stability.
