King Frederik X delighted royal watchers with a lighthearted and candid remark about his relationship with Queen Mary, saying he is “perfectly okay” being overshadowed by her in Australia. The comment quickly gained attention for its humility and warmth.

The Danish royal couple recently concluded a six-day official visit to Australia, marking their first joint tour since ascending to the throne. Their trip included visits to Melbourne and Tasmania, Queen Mary’s hometown, where they received an enthusiastic public welcome.

During an appearance at Melbourne’s Royal Botanical Gardens, King Frederik shared a humorous story from an earlier visit to Australia shortly after their marriage. He recalled a child asking his mother, “Who’s that boy next to Mary?” prompting laughter among attendees.

Reflecting on the moment, the King said that Australians may always see him as the one standing beside Queen Mary, adding that he considers it a compliment. His remarks highlighted the deep admiration and affection he holds for his wife.

Queen Mary responded playfully, noting that her husband is “no longer a boy,” adding a light touch to the exchange. Their interaction showcased a relaxed and affectionate dynamic that resonated strongly with audiences during the tour.

The couple also released a joint statement thanking Australians for their hospitality, describing the visit as memorable and meaningful. Their tour marked a significant milestone, being their first official engagement abroad since becoming monarch and consort.
