Sahibzada Farhan named ICC Player of the Month after record World Cup run

Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan has been named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for February 2026 following a record-breaking performance at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

Farhan emerged as the leading run-scorer of the tournament, amassing 383 runs in seven matches at an impressive average of 76.60. His campaign included two centuries and two half-centuries, achieved at a striking rate of 160.25.

The 29-year-old right-hander also etched his name in history by surpassing Virat Kohli’s record for the most runs in a single edition of the T20 World Cup. In addition, he became the first batter to score two centuries in one tournament of the shortest format, reaching three figures against Namibia and Sri Lanka.

Mohsin Naqvi congratulated Sahibzada Farhan on winning the ICC Player of the Month award, calling it a proud moment for Pakistan cricket.

Speaking after receiving the award, Farhan described the achievement as special, particularly because it came on cricket’s biggest stage. He credited his teammates for their support, adding that he aims to carry this momentum into upcoming series and competitions.

This marks Farhan’s first ICC Player of the Month award and makes him the first Pakistani male cricketer to win the honour since Haris Rauf in November 2024. His outstanding form has also propelled him to a career-best second position in the ICC Men’s T20I batting rankings.

Farhan further contributed to a record 176-run partnership with Fakhar Zaman, the highest for any wicket in T20 internationals. Despite Pakistan’s strong performances, the team narrowly missed out on a semi-final spot due to net run rate.

Farhan’s consistent displays earned him a place in the ICC Team of the Tournament, capping a memorable campaign.
