Shahbaz and Hamza’s acquittal challenged in Lahore HC

Published on: March 23, 2026 11:36 PM

LAHORE: The acquittal of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Hamza Shahbaz in a 16-billion-rupee money laundering case has been challenged in the Lahore High Court. PTI President Pervez Elahi filed the petition on Monday, seeking review of the trial court’s decision.

The petition, filed through advocate Aamir Saeed Raan, argues that the trial court failed to properly examine the evidence. It claims the acquittal was politically motivated and not consistent with the facts presented in court.

Pervez Elahi’s application states that witness statements and records were overlooked during the trial, and therefore, the court’s decision should be declared null and void. The petition asserts that legal procedures were violated in granting the acquittal.

The Lahore High Court Registrar’s Office has listed the petition for hearing. Chief Justice Asma Neelam is scheduled to hear the case on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. Legal experts anticipate a detailed review of the trial court’s handling of the matter.

The development adds a new dimension to the ongoing political and legal discourse surrounding the Sharif family. Observers say the outcome could have significant implications for both politics and judiciary credibility in Pakistan.
