Malaysia backs Pakistan’s mediation efforts in Middle East

Anwar Ibrahim backs Pakistan's mediation push, urges urgent diplomacy

ISLAMABAD — Anwar Ibrahim has expressed support for Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East during a telephonic conversation with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday.

During the call, Prime Minister Shehbaz thanked his Malaysian counterpart for the strong message of support and endorsement of Pakistan’s role in facilitating dialogue amid the ongoing conflict. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to pursuing sincere and constructive efforts to reduce tensions and promote peace in the region.

Shehbaz Sharif also briefed Anwar Ibrahim on Pakistan’s recent diplomatic engagements, including his discussions with leaders of Gulf countries and Iran. These efforts are aimed at bringing the United States and Iran closer to the negotiating table and finding a peaceful resolution to the crisis.

The Malaysian prime minister commended Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership and highlighted his own outreach to global leaders, stressing the urgent need to end hostilities in the Middle East. Both leaders emphasized the importance of coordinated international efforts to achieve de-escalation and maintain regional stability.

The conversation also reflected broader cooperation between Pakistan and Malaysia, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to continued engagement on key global and regional issues. The leaders agreed to remain in close contact as diplomatic efforts progress.

In addition to discussing geopolitical developments, the two prime ministers exchanged Eid-ul-Fitr greetings and prayed for unity, peace, and prosperity across the Muslim world.
