Petrol subsidy for motorbikes, small vehicles likely

Published on: March 28, 2026 3:59 PM

The government is considering providing a petrol subsidy to motorcycles and three-wheeled vehicles, with an official announcement expected soon. Under the proposal, targeted users may receive 20 to 30 liters of subsidized fuel per month. A QR code system will be used to distribute the subsidized petrol to eligible motorists.

Reports indicate the federal government has requested Rs154 billion from the provinces to implement the fuel conservation plan. The initiative aims to encourage efficient fuel use while easing the burden of rising petroleum prices on small vehicle owners. Officials are finalizing the details before public rollout.

According to a finance ministry statement, a high-level advisory meeting chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb reviewed the country’s current fuel supply. Authorities confirmed that petroleum products are available until May 10, ensuring uninterrupted supply during planning and implementation of the subsidy program.

A final decision on fuel pricing adjustments will be taken next week following a meeting between the President, Prime Minister, and the four provincial chief ministers. Officials emphasized that the subsidy program is part of broader measures to support low-income and small vehicle users.

The targeted petrol subsidy is expected to simplify fuel distribution using digital QR codes and will help regulate consumption while providing relief to daily commuters. The government aims to implement the plan efficiently without disrupting overall fuel supply.
