Pakistan warns against escalation, urges dialogue

Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to promoting regional peace and dialogue at the United Nations on Friday. The statement comes amid rising tensions and ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. The country urged de-escalation and an immediate halt to hostilities affecting civilians.

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, made the remarks during a Security Council meeting. The session focused on cooperation between the United Nations and the Gulf Cooperation Council. He emphasized Pakistan’s constructive role in fostering understanding and supporting peace efforts.

He described recent developments, including attacks against Iran, as deeply troubling. He warned that such actions risk dangerous escalation and threaten regional stability. He added that these tensions carry serious implications for global peace, security, and economic stability.

Moreover, the ambassador strongly condemned attacks on civilians and critical infrastructure. He said targeting power plants, hospitals, and schools is unacceptable and must stop immediately. He stressed that de-escalation and a complete cessation of hostilities must remain the top priority.

He also condemned attacks on Gulf countries and appreciated their restraint under provocation. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for their sovereignty and territorial integrity. He concluded that diplomacy, restraint, and dialogue remain essential at this critical moment.
