PM Shehbaz launches digital fuel relief for transport sector

Published on: April 5, 2026 1:13 PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that fuel relief payments for bus, wagon, and truck operators are now being distributed through digital wallets, aiming to ease the burden of rising petroleum prices.

The premier chaired a meeting to review national petroleum reserves and evaluate relief measures amid the ongoing fuel crisis, emphasizing the government’s commitment to supporting economically vulnerable groups across the country.

Officials informed the prime minister that adequate fuel stocks are available to meet demand, and the digital transfer system ensures transparency and timely delivery of financial assistance to transport operators.

Shehbaz Sharif highlighted that savings generated from government austerity measures are being redirected to public support programs, ensuring that citizens receive necessary relief during periods of inflation and rising fuel costs.

The announcement follows global crude oil price increases driven by tensions in the Middle East, which have sharply raised petrol and diesel prices, putting additional pressure on the transport and freight sector.

The government’s focus on digital wallets aims to streamline subsidy distribution, prevent delays, and enhance accountability while maintaining public confidence in relief initiatives for essential service providers.
