The United Nations chief has welcomed upcoming US-Iran talks in Islamabad, calling for urgent de-escalation. The negotiations matter as tensions remain high after weeks of conflict between both countries. The talks directly affect regional stability and global diplomatic efforts for lasting peace.

Antonio Guterres urged the United States and Iran to engage in constructive dialogue. He emphasized the need for good faith during negotiations. His spokesperson highlighted this message during a daily press briefing. Moreover, he stressed that diplomacy remains the only viable solution.

Meanwhile, the talks are being hosted in Islamabad, reflecting Pakistan’s growing diplomatic role. Officials described the negotiations as high-stakes and timely. Furthermore, Pakistan aims to facilitate communication between both sides. This effort highlights its importance in global peacebuilding initiatives.

The discussions follow a fragile two-week ceasefire between Washington and Tehran. This pause in hostilities created space for diplomatic engagement. However, tensions remain sensitive and could escalate again. Therefore, successful dialogue is critical for long-term stability.
