Iran backs Pakistan for US talks

Published on: April 14, 2026 8:45 PM

Iran has said Pakistan is its preferred venue for a second round of talks with the United States. The statement signals renewed momentum in stalled US-Iran diplomacy. The development could affect ongoing efforts to reduce regional tensions.

Iranian officials told that Tehran remains ready for negotiations. However, they said the position of the United States is still unclear. They added that Pakistan would be their first choice if talks resume.

Meanwhile, Reuters reported that US and Iranian delegations could return to Islamabad later this week. The possible meeting follows earlier indirect and direct discussions aimed at easing tensions. Pakistani officials have reportedly offered to host the next phase.

Earlier, sources said talks could take place as early as Thursday in Islamabad. Iranian embassy officials also indicated that discussions may occur this week or next. However, no final date has been confirmed by any party involved.

Notably, previous reports suggest Pakistan is actively facilitating communication between both sides. Officials continue to coordinate timing and logistics for a potential meeting. Further announcements are expected as diplomatic efforts progress.
