Second round Iran US talks likely in Islamabad

Published on: April 15, 2026 7:40 PM

A second round of Iran–US talks is expected to be held in Islamabad at the end of next week, according to sources. Preparations are reportedly underway as Pakistani authorities have been directed to make security and logistical arrangements for the high-level negotiations.

Sources said the United States delegation may include Vice President JD Vance, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner. On the Iranian side, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi are expected to represent Tehran.

However, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson said no official date has been finalized for the talks. Officials stressed that discussions are still in the planning phase and details remain under coordination.

The proposed Islamabad meeting follows an earlier round of negotiations held on April 11, which lasted nearly 21 hours but ended without any agreement. Despite the lack of a deal, both sides described the discussions as constructive.

US Vice President JD Vance later said progress had been made and that proposals were presented to Iran, leaving the next step to Tehran. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said his country is open to a fair agreement, while Russia has also called for continued diplomacy to prevent renewed conflict.
