Top Gun 3: One Last Ride (2026) - First Trailer | Tom Cruise, Liam Neeson - Concept Trailer

Hollywood star Tom Cruise is officially set to return for the third installment of the blockbuster aviation franchise, as Paramount Studios confirmed development of Top Gun 3 during its CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas.

The announcement also confirmed the return of veteran producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who has been a key figure behind the success of the franchise since its early days. The upcoming film will continue the story that was revived in 2022 with Top Gun: Maverick.

The sequel follows the massive global success of Top Gun: Maverick, which grossed approximately $1.5 billion worldwide against a production budget of around $170 million, making it one of the most successful films in recent years. That film itself was a continuation of the iconic 1986 original Top Gun, where Tom Cruise first portrayed the legendary pilot Pete “Maverick” Mitchell.

In Top Gun: Maverick, the story followed Cruise’s character as he returned to train a new generation of elite pilots, including characters played by Miles Teller, Glen Powell, and others. The film also featured a widely noted cameo by Val Kilmer, marking one of his final screen appearances.

While the storyline for Top Gun 3 has not yet been revealed, the script is reportedly being developed by Ehren Kruger, who also co-wrote the 2022 sequel. However, the director for the new installment has not been announced, leaving speculation open about the creative direction of the project.

Industry observers expect the next chapter to continue blending high-intensity aerial action with emotional storytelling, a formula that contributed to the franchise’s renewed global popularity.
