Hormuz crisis deepens with ship fire reports

Published on: April 18, 2026 7:55 PM

Iran has announced it is tightening military control over the Strait of Hormuz, warning that the key shipping route is again under restriction. The move comes amid rising tensions with the United States and renewed uncertainty over maritime traffic in the Gulf.

Shipping sources reported that at least two vessels came under gunfire while attempting to transit the waterway. Maritime security officials said radio warnings were issued by Iranian naval forces instructing ships not to pass through the strait.

Iranian armed forces described the action as a response to what it called a continued US blockade of Iranian ports. Tehran accused Washington of violating ceasefire terms and labeled its actions as “piracy.” Iranian officials said naval forces are prepared for further escalation.

In the same way that the drones of Iran’s Army strike the US and the Zionist murderers like lightning, its valiant navy is also ready to inflict new bitter defeats on its enemies.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global energy route, and disruptions have already raised concerns over oil supply stability. Earlier in the day, some tanker movements were observed, but traffic was quickly halted again after new warnings were issued.

Diplomatic uncertainty continues as negotiations between Iran and the United States remain unresolved. Talks over nuclear and security issues have stalled, while global markets closely monitor the situation due to risks for energy prices and shipping routes.
