Israeli forces advance new incursion into Quneitra province

Published on: April 19, 2026 2:28 PM

Israeli forces launched a fresh incursion into Syria’s Quneitra province late Saturday, advancing into southern areas with armored units and establishing positions inside prefabricated structures brought earlier to the region. The move further escalates tensions along the border as military activity in the area continues to intensify without official explanation from Israeli authorities.

According to reports from the Syrian Arab News Agency, an Israeli force consisting of two tanks and two military vehicles entered the eastern Tal al-Ahmar hill in southern Quneitra. The troops then occupied the site and positioned themselves inside temporary rooms that had been delivered to the area the previous day.

Earlier, Israeli forces had entered the same location with a bulldozer and additional prefabricated structures, although no justification was provided for the operation at that time. The repeated movements suggest a growing military presence in the region, raising concerns over sovereignty violations and long-term occupation risks.

Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts between Syria and Israel continue under difficult conditions, as Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa has expressed interest in reaching a limited security agreement. He stated that discussions remain ongoing but face major obstacles due to Israel’s continued presence inside Syrian territory and the complexity of regional tensions.

Following the collapse of the former Syrian government in December 2024, Israel declared the end of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement and expanded its control over the buffer zone along the frontier. Since then, Israeli forces have repeatedly conducted airstrikes inside Syria, targeting military infrastructure, ammunition sites, and other strategic positions.

Despite the absence of direct Syrian threats, continued Israeli military operations have resulted in civilian casualties and ongoing destruction across several regions. As a result, tensions remain high, while diplomatic talks struggle to achieve meaningful progress toward de-escalation or a long-term settlement.
