Punjab has launched large-scale shrimp farming projects to convert barren land into economic zones. The initiative aims to boost exports, create jobs, and develop aquaculture in the province. Thousands of acres and multiple communities are directly affected by the development push.
In Sargodha Shrimp Estate, construction work has reached advanced stages across ponds and infrastructure. Officials reported completion of 118 out of 126 ponds, along with strong progress in water systems. Tube wells and supporting facilities are also near completion, improving water supply for production.

Similarly, Ali Wala Shrimp Estate has shown rapid progress across 1,267 acres of land development. Most of the area has been cleared, and hundreds of ponds have been completed. Drainage systems, road networks, and tube wells are also advancing steadily alongside administrative facilities.
In addition, Shah Garh shrimp farm project has achieved high completion in electrification, water supply, and road construction. Authorities said the project represents Pakistan’s first state-backed modern aquaculture system. They added that technical conditions such as water temperature have been found suitable for shrimp farming.

The government said the projects will help turn barren land into productive economic zones. It also expects improved export capacity and employment opportunities in rural areas. Officials confirmed that further infrastructure development and production phases will continue in the coming months.
