ICMA Pakistan launches book on blockchain in public finance

Published on: April 21, 2026 3:58 AM

The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan (ICMA Pakistan) has launched a new publication titled “Blockchain in Public Finance: Reducing Corruption and Enhancing Transparency,” authored by Mr. Muhammad Afzaal, FCMA, Chairman of the Government Commercial Audit Advisory Board of ICMA.

The book focuses on the application of blockchain technology in public financial management, highlighting its potential to enhance transparency, strengthen accountability, and reduce corruption in government systems. It provides practical insights into key areas such as procurement, budgeting, revenue systems, and audit processes, supported by global case studies and emerging best practices.

Through this publication, Mr. Afzaal emphasizes how features such as decentralization, smart contracts, and immutable records can improve traceability of public funds, ensure real-time monitoring, and support more effective governance frameworks. The book also addresses implementation challenges and institutional readiness, making it a valuable resource for policymakers, auditors, and finance professionals.

The launch of this publication reflects ICMA Pakistan’s continued commitment to promoting research and thought leadership on emerging technologies and their role in strengthening public sector governance and financial integrity.
