Sydney Sweeney cameo cut from Devil Wears Prada sequel

Published on: April 22, 2026 6:04 PM

Hollywood actress Sydney Sweeney has sparked major discussion after reports confirmed her cameo in The Devil Wears Prada 2 was ultimately removed from the final cut. The sequel to the iconic fashion drama continues production in New York, where speculation had grown after Sweeney was spotted on set during filming.

Initial rumours suggested that Sweeney would appear in a short but notable scene alongside rising characters in the fashion world storyline. Fans believed her appearance would connect her to the evolving universe of the sequel, especially after multiple celebrity names circulated online during filming.

As excitement increased, other high-profile names such as Lady Gaga, Lucy Liu and Simone Ashley also fueled speculation about surprise appearances. However, writers later clarified that many of these rumored roles were based on set photos and social media discussions rather than confirmed casting decisions.

Screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna explained that online speculation turned into widespread fan theories, with multiple celebrity appearances being incorrectly assumed. She added that the discussion became a running joke during production as viewers tried to guess the final cast lineup before official confirmation.

Reports now confirm that Sweeney’s planned cameo, reportedly a brief three-minute scene involving a fashion interaction with Emily Blunt’s character, was cut during editing. Filmmakers said the sequence did not fit the overall structure of the film and therefore was removed from the final narrative.

Despite the change, the sequel still brings back major stars including Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Stanley Tucci and Emily Blunt, with the story focusing on Andy Sachs navigating the evolving media and fashion industry ahead of its planned 2026 release.
