Govt caves in, accepts demands in ‘deal brokered by COAS’

Published on: November 27, 2017 7:40 AM

LAHORE: The mainstream media are reporting that the government and the leaders of hardliners have reached an ‘agreement’ brokered by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Bajwa and his ‘representative team’ whereby the government has decided to accept the demands of the protesters.

There’s also a ‘leaked’ copy of the said agreement being shown on the national news networks and is available with the Daily Times Web Desk as well. As per the agreement, the Law Minister Zahid Hamid has tendered his resignation pending acceptance. The government also accepted the demands of publicising the Raja Zafarul Haq’s inquiry report on the matter within 30 days and ‘punish’ those responsible as per the laws of the country.

The government reportedly also accepted to hold an independent inquiry of the operation launched to remove the protesters and those responsible are also to be punished. The government is to release everyone arrested in connection and drop all charges while also bearing responsibility of paying for all loss of property.

This is a developing story and will be updated as details become available
