Iran’s judiciary denies Trump claim on death sentences for eight women

Published on: April 23, 2026 10:00 AM

Iran’s judiciary has rejected claims made by Donald Trump regarding alleged death sentences for eight women, calling the statements false and misleading. The response comes amid heightened tensions and ongoing political rhetoric between the two sides.

According to Iranian media reports citing judicial officials, the women referenced by Trump were never sentenced to death in the first place. Authorities stated that the claims were fabricated and accused the U.S. president of spreading misinformation to portray diplomatic influence.

🇮🇷 Iran’s judiciary on Wednesday described as “false news” remarks by US President Donald Trump that the Islamic republic had reversed a decision to execute eight women, saying they had never faced the death penalty.

The controversy began when Trump publicly asserted that his intervention had led to the cancellation of execution orders against the women. He repeated the claim in consecutive statements, suggesting that Iran had acted in response to his demands. However, Iranian officials strongly disputed this narrative, emphasizing that no such sentences existed.

Iranian media further criticized the remarks, arguing that the claims were an attempt to create a perception of success amid ongoing geopolitical challenges. Officials suggested that such statements could undermine trust and complicate already fragile diplomatic efforts.

The issue gained attention after Trump initially called for the release of the women ahead of potential peace talks, framing it as a humanitarian concern. Despite the claim being challenged, he reiterated his position, stating that Iran had reversed its decision due to international pressure.

Observers note that conflicting narratives like these often emerge during periods of political strain, particularly when diplomatic engagement is uncertain. Analysts warn that misinformation or disputed claims could further escalate tensions and hinder constructive dialogue.

As both sides maintain sharply different accounts, the incident highlights the broader challenges in verifying claims during periods of geopolitical conflict and underscores the importance of credible communication in international relations.
