LNG imports: Pakistan moves for spot deals

Published on: April 23, 2026 6:44 PM

Pakistan has decided to proceed with the urgent spot purchase of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and has invited international companies to submit bids for three cargoes. The move comes as part of efforts to ensure stable energy supplies during the coming weeks.

According to sources at Pakistan LNG Limited, bids have been requested for three LNG cargoes on an immediate basis. The bidding process is scheduled to close on April 24, and the bids will be opened on the same day. The decision reflects ongoing energy demand management.

Furthermore, the three cargoes are being arranged for delivery during April and May. The first shipment is planned between April 27 and April 30. The second cargo will arrive between May 1 and May 7, while the third is scheduled for May 8 to May 14.

Officials said the procurement is aimed at meeting short-term energy requirements. Spot LNG purchases are typically used to address immediate supply needs in the energy system. The country continues to balance demand with available fuel resources.

Meanwhile, energy authorities are monitoring supply conditions closely to avoid disruptions. The bidding process is expected to attract global LNG suppliers. The government has been relying on both long-term and spot contracts to manage energy security.
