Trump orders strikes in Hormuz blockade

Published on: April 23, 2026 8:15 PM

US President Donald Trump has ordered intensified military action in the Strait of Hormuz, including targeting vessels suspected of laying naval mines. The move aims to enforce a strict blockade amid ongoing tensions with Iran. The escalation directly impacts global shipping routes and regional stability.

In a statement on his platform Truth Social, Trump said the US Navy has been directed to destroy any vessel involved in mining activities. He added that both small and large boats could be targeted under the order. The directive signals a major escalation in maritime operations.

Furthermore, Trump claimed that US naval forces now have full control over the strategic waterway. He said no ship can enter or exit without US approval. He also ordered a threefold increase in operations to secure the area.

In addition, Trump alleged deep divisions within Iran’s leadership between hardliners and so-called moderates. He claimed hardline elements are failing on the battlefield, while moderates are gaining attention. However, no independent verification of these claims was provided.

Meanwhile, the US said mine-clearing operations are ongoing to secure safe navigation. Trump warned that the blockade would continue until Iran agrees to a deal. The situation remains tense, with significant implications for global oil supply and maritime security.
