Pakistan hockey Olympian praises China’s support, friendship

Published on: April 25, 2026 10:02 AM

Former renowned Pakistani hockey Olympian Samiullah Khan, famously known as the “Flying Horse,” said that Pakistan-China friendship was everlasting and widely recognized around the world.

He expressed these views during his visit to the Chinese cultural center China Window in Peshawar. He was accompanied by seven other Pakistani Olympians, including Naeem Akhtar, Nasir Ali, Ayaz Mahmood, Dr. Atif Bashir, Shakeel Abbasi, Rahim Khan and Kashif Jawad. Former Pakistani squash champion Qamar Zaman was also present on the occasion, said a press release issued here on Friday.

Speaking to the media, Samiullah Khan said that he was very pleased to visit China Window and was impressed to learn that the cultural center was playing an important role in strengthening Pakistan-China friendship.

Samiullah, who also serves as the Chief Selector of Pakistan Hockey Federation, added that he had participated in several tournaments in China, where he received great warmth and hospitality. He noted that this is the reason why the people of both countries share a deep bond of love.

He further said that China was also keenly interested in Pakistan’s economic development, which was why the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor was being described as Pakistan’s economic lifeline. Samiullah emphasized that both countries were also very close in the field of sports and expressed his desire for friendly hockey series between Pakistan and China, so that regular hockey competitions can be organized between the two nations.

Olympians also congratulated the people of China, especially the athletes, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Pakistan-China friendship and expressed confidence that this friendship will grow even stronger in the years to come.
