Trump signals possible breakthrough with Iran talks

Published on: April 25, 2026 4:24 PM

President Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump says Iran wants negotiations and talks are ongoing with “authorized” officials. The statement comes amid rising US pressure on Tehran through sanctions and maritime enforcement actions. The development is significant as it signals parallel diplomacy alongside escalating economic and security measures. Global energy markets and regional stability remain directly affected.

Donald Trump said Iran is seeking dialogue and may present a proposal aligned with US demands. He added that Washington is currently engaging with individuals who hold authority in Iran. Trump also said it remains unclear whether a final agreement can be reached, but discussions are continuing.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington is increasing economic pressure on Tehran. He stated that efforts are underway to block Iran’s oil trade and disrupt networks supporting its exports. The US Treasury also announced new sanctions targeting shipping firms, oil traders, and a refinery linked to Iran’s energy sector, including entities based in China.

In addition, US Central Command reported enforcement actions at sea against Iranian-linked vessels. Officials said a ship carrying the Iranian flag was stopped for allegedly violating maritime restrictions while heading toward an Iranian port. The move reflects ongoing US efforts to restrict Iran’s oil exports through both sanctions and naval operations.

Overall, the situation shows a dual-track approach of pressure and diplomacy between Washington and Tehran. While sanctions and enforcement continue, limited backchannel talks suggest cautious engagement. However, deep disagreements over demands and conditions remain unresolved, keeping tensions high across the region.
