SBP announces bank holiday on May 1

Published on: April 28, 2026 5:29 PM

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced that it will remain closed on May 1, 2026, in observance of Labour Day. The announcement is important for banking customers as it confirms a nationwide closure of banking operations on the public holiday.

According to the central bank, the decision follows the government’s official notification declaring May 1 as a public holiday. All banks and financial institutions under SBP’s supervision will remain closed for the day. Normal operations will resume after the holiday.

Moreover, the closure is part of annual observance of Labour Day, which is marked to honour workers and their contributions. The holiday is observed across Pakistan with official and public events. Banking services are typically suspended on this day each year.

Additionally, customers are advised to plan financial transactions in advance to avoid inconvenience. Digital banking services, however, are expected to remain available during the holiday. ATMs will continue to operate for cash withdrawals and basic services.
