Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has announced the establishment of nearly 10 Down syndrome centres in Hyderabad. The initiative aims to expand specialised care for children with Down syndrome across the province. The development highlights increased focus on inclusive healthcare and rehabilitation services.
Speaking in Hyderabad, the chief minister said the centres reflect the government’s commitment to supporting children with special needs. He noted that the project was completed ahead of schedule through coordinated efforts. As a result, authorities are now planning further expansion of similar facilities.

Shah said the provincial government will establish additional centres in other divisional headquarters, including Sukkur. He added that the goal is to ensure equal access to care and support services across Sindh. Therefore, the initiative will be gradually extended to multiple cities.

The chief minister also revealed plans for a dedicated 70 to 75-acre “Down Syndrome City.” The proposed facility will provide healthcare, rehabilitation, and educational support in one integrated space. Furthermore, he said the project will serve as a model for inclusive development.

Officials said the government is already expanding disability support programmes in partnership with NGOs. Earlier, billions of rupees were allocated to support organisations working in the sector. Meanwhile, infrastructure and rehabilitation projects continue to progress across the province.
