How you can get your “Apna Ghar” from the government?

Published on: May 2, 2026 9:30 AM

اپنی چھت اپنا گھر پروگرام کے حوالے سے اہم پیشرفت

The federal government has introduced the Prime Minister’s “Apna Ghar” program as part of broader efforts to improve access to affordable housing for low- and middle-income families across Pakistan. Launched under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the initiative is designed to support first-time homebuyers by offering easier financing options and reduced borrowing costs.

Under the scheme, eligible applicants can obtain housing finance of up to Rs10 million for the construction or purchase of a home. Officials say the program includes a subsidized markup rate of 5 percent for the first 10 years, making financing more manageable compared to conventional market rates. Repayment periods of up to 20 years are also being offered to reduce the burden of monthly installments on households.

Government representatives have described the initiative as an important step toward addressing Pakistan’s housing shortage, which has affected millions of families, particularly in urban areas where rising land and construction costs have made home ownership increasingly difficult.

The program primarily targets citizens purchasing a home for the first time, with authorities emphasizing transparency and accessibility in the application process. Officials say the scheme aims to encourage home ownership while also supporting related sectors such as construction, cement, steel, and allied industries, potentially generating employment opportunities.

Economic analysts note that subsidized housing finance programs can stimulate economic activity, though successful implementation will depend on clear eligibility criteria, efficient loan processing, and effective monitoring mechanisms. They add that maintaining affordability over the long term will be essential to ensuring the scheme benefits intended households.

Applicants are expected to submit financial and identification documents as part of the approval process through designated banking channels. Further details regarding eligibility requirements and application procedures are being shared through official government platforms.

Authorities say the Apna Ghar program reflects a continued policy focus on social welfare and housing accessibility, with the goal of helping more citizens achieve stable and affordable home ownership in the coming years.
