A report by The Wall Street Journal claimed that Israel established a secret military base in Iraq for operations against Iran. According to US officials cited in the report, the base operated in a remote desert area. Moreover, the report suggested the facility supported Israeli military activities during regional tensions.
The report stated that Israeli special forces were stationed at the secret base. It also said the facility served as a logistical center for the Israeli Air Force. Furthermore, officials claimed the base helped coordinate military operations linked to Iran-related missions.
According to the newspaper, search and rescue teams were also deployed at the site. Their role was to respond quickly if an Israeli aircraft crashed during operations. In addition, the report claimed the teams remained prepared for emergency evacuations and recovery missions in the area.
The report further said Iraqi military forces approached the area near the base in early March. However, it alleged that Israeli forces carried out airstrikes to keep Iraqi personnel away from the location. As a result, the operation reportedly prevented the secret base from being exposed publicly.
