Sindh, Punjab announce major summer school break

Published on: May 11, 2026 5:25 PM

The Sindh government announced summer vacations for all public and private schools across the province. The holidays will begin on June 1 and continue until July 31. The decision affects thousands of students, teachers, and school staff during rising temperatures.

The Sindh Education Department confirmed the schedule through an official notification on Monday. Authorities said the decision applies to both government and privately managed educational institutions. Officials introduced the break to protect students from extreme summer heat conditions. Moreover, schools must follow the announced timetable without any exception.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government also announced summer vacations for schools throughout the province. Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat confirmed the holidays during a public statement. According to the minister, schools in Punjab will close from May 22. He added that educational institutions will reopen on August 24 after the summer break.

Furthermore, education officials said the extended closure aims to ensure student safety during intense weather conditions. Pakistan usually experiences severe heatwaves during June and July every year. Consequently, provincial governments often revise academic schedules to reduce health risks for children. Parents and teachers also welcomed the decision due to increasing daytime temperatures.

Earlier, several regions reported rising temperatures and heat-related concerns in educational institutions. Therefore, authorities acted before peak summer conditions intensified across major cities. Schools are expected to share holiday assignments and reopening schedules with students soon. However, officials have not announced any changes to examinations or academic calendars yet.
